Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro review: Lab tests - display, battery life, charging speed

Image
Large 120Hz OLED with no cutout The nubia Red Magic 7S Pro features a large, 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with 10-bit color output and can go up to 120Hz refresh rate. In other words, it should be the same exact panel used in the previous Red Magic 7 Pro handset. This also means that HDR10 content is supported and has HLG certification at hand. For improved gaming experience and responsiveness, the panel supports up to 720Hz touch sampling rate with several fingers. That's pretty fast, although it will likely go unnoticed by inexperienced mobile gamers. Sadly, despite the advertised 600 nits of maximum brightness, the panel can reach only 449 nits in either manual or auto mode. Even since Red Magic 3, which is the first handset from the series that came into our office, nubia is yet to implement some auto brightness boost. We think 449 nits are not enough for comfortable outdoor use. Even text is pretty hard to read on a bright sunny day. Display test 100% brightness Black, cd/m 2 White

Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro Review: Design and ergonomics

Image
There's seemingly little to no difference between the 7 Pro and the 7S Pro in terms of design and materials used. They both have solid, sturdy build with aviation-grade aluminum middle frame and a glass front, while the back gets a little bit of both. There's no official info on the screen protection, though, but we would assume it's the same as before - Gorilla Glass 5. Three cameras, along with the LED flash, are arranged in a square formation for the sake of symmetry and are placed inside a square camera bump with rounded corners. There's also a metal piece surrounding the module integrated into a glass panel. Same as before, we have the Obsidian Black and Supernova color options, and the new one is Mercury. The latter two have transparent glass backs, so you can see some of the internals along with the LED-illuminated cooling fan. We got the Obsidian option this time around, which means we can't see the internals. There are two LED lighting strips right in the m

Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro review

Image
Introduction and specs With the Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro out in China, the company just launched the handset for the global market as a successor to the 7 Pro a few months back. But as it's usually the case with biannual upgrades, the 7S Pro isn't a full-fledged successor. It's more of a refresh. That's because many of the features and hardware on the 7 Pro can be found on the 7S Pro as well. However, some key upgrades would make you want to get the 7S Pro instead of the 7 Pro if you are on the market for a gaming-centric smartphone. The most obvious and probably important one is the chipset. The 7S Pro runs on the updated Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is manufactured on TSMC's 4nm manufacturing process. The standard SD 8 Gen 1 was Samsung's doing, and now, Qualcomm claims about 30% improved efficiency over the original SoC thanks to TSMC's better node. It will be interesting to compare the test results between the 7 Pro and the 7S Pro since both handsets share m

The Honor Magicbook 14 has a 14” screen with a 3:2 ratio and QHD+ resolution. It has 185 PPI and 170 degrees of view, with brightness at 300 nits. The APU can be either a Ryzen 5 6600H or a Ryzen 7 6800H, but there are no discrete GPU options. It comes with Windows 11, 16GB RAM 512GB storage and a 75Wh battery. Prices are CNY5,199 ($770) for the Ryzen 5 version and CNY5,699 ($845) for the Ryzen 7 variant. Honor Earbuds X3 • Honor Earbuds X3i The new TWS audio wearables are called Earbuds X3 and Earbuds X3i, with the former being the one with ANC. Honor did not reveal much about these devices. Motorola is announcing the Razr 2022 and Edge X30 Pro on August 2

Image
The next Razr foldable smartphone from Motorola was reported to be delayed just yesterday, but today the company has revealed its unveiling date: August 2. It will be joined at the same event by the Edge X30 Pro. The launch is happening in China, but the X30 Pro has long been rumored to launch elsewhere, rebranded as Edge 30 Ultra . It remains to be seen whether the Razr 2022 (also referred to in the past as Razr 3) will ever escape China, however. But given the history of the foldable Razr line, chances are high. Still, the initial announcement will take place in the home of Motorola owner Lenovo, which probably also means these two models will be available in China first. The Motorola Razr 2022 is a pretty big departure from its predecessors, as it will be powered by Qualcomm's latest and greatest chipset, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. That's a stark contrast to the 7-series chips the previous Razrs were using. It's also rumored to bring a 6.7-inch 120 Hz inner screen and a

Apple diversifies iPhone 14 suppliers ahead of the launch

Image
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 14 series in September, and to avoid any delays in its launch, the company has diversified its component suppliers, which not only allows the Cupertino-based tech giant to reduce dependence on a single supplier but also have a bargaining position. And, ahead of the iPhone 14 launch, Apple's suppliers' list has expanded since China's SG Micro has passed the quality certifications for the higher-end iPhone 14 models. Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max Word comes from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said SG Micro will likely ship the PMICs for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It will be the first time the Chinese company will supply components to Apple, suggesting its technical capabilities have reached the tier-1 level, which is necessary if you want to produce premium, high-end consumer electronics. SG Micro getting orders from Apple for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will also help increase its revenue and profits while help

Honor X8 5G announced with SD 480+ and 48MP main camera

Image
Honor X8 5G announced with SD 480+ and 48MP main camera Honor rather quietly introduced the Honor X8 5G smartphone, which is supposed to be the 5G version of the already released Honor X8 from March this year. However, there's more to it than just added support for 5G connectivity. For starters, the new X8 5G has a smaller 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with 720 x 1600px resolution. The Snapdragon 680 SoC has been swapped out for a Snapdragon 480+, which strangely is a more powerful alternative, despite its older manufacturing process and lower clock speeds. Memory options are limited to just one - 6GB/128GB. Honor had to cut some corners to retain the price, though, so the main 64MP camera has been replaced with a 48MP f/1.8 and gone is the 5MP ultrawide shooter. Now the X8 5G has just a 2MP macro shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie has also been downgraded to 8MP f/2.0. Honor X8 5G in Midnight Black and Ocean Blue A 5,000 mAh battery keeps the lights on, supporting up to 22.5W f

Realme GT2 Explorer Master

Image
Last week Realme announced the GT2 Explorer Master flagship armed with the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a bespoke design developed in collaboration with fashion designer Jae-Jung. We’ve received a review device now and these are our first impressions before the review team gets going with its tests. Design is the one aspect where the GT2 Explorer Master definitely stands out from other phones. We’ve got the Travel Trunk model on hand here and it features a distinct look inspired by the vintage luggage carrying equipment. The phone features a light grey vegan leather back and copper brown elements and a flat metal frame. It’s a solidly built device though its weight is kept sane at 195 grams. There’s a flat 6.7-inch OLED screen upfront with FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a centered punch hole for the 16MP selfie camera. Realme is also bringing capacitive shoulder triggers on the side where the power button is housed. These buttons allow you to perform certain actio
